SNIC — Spectral Network Interface Card
The SNIC is the photonic NIC of 2032. Where conventional network cards process packets through silicon logic gates, the SNIC selects wavelengths in a photonic waveguide — CE lookups that currently run as table scans in RAM execute as physical wavelength selections in glass.
The 51,200 orthogonal Ψ channels (256 WDM × 50 OAM × 2 POL × 2 DIR) map directly to physical hardware lanes. ⟨Ψᵢ|Ψⱼ⟩ = 0 is guaranteed by quantum mechanics, not software policy. When NexusOS migrates to SNIC hardware, no driver rewrite is required — the protocol already speaks in wavelengths.
